Why did President Truman refuse Ho Chi Minh’s letter asking for help against the French on 2/28/1946?
President Truman refused Ho Chi Minh’s request for help against the French because Truman viewed France as a vital ally in the struggle against the spread of communism in postwar Europe. He also was unwilling to back the Vietminh because of Ho’s Communist Party connections.
At the meeting on 7/25/13 at The White House, Communist Vietnam’s President Truong Tan San gave President Obama the copy of the Letter from Ho Chi Minh to Harry S. Truman (28 February 1946).
President Obama should remember the deep reason why President acted that way. He acknowledged the danger of the communist aggression and expansion to the Free World, especially in Asia Region.
I believe it is still true today. The aggression of the Communist China is obvious. Communist Vietnam is a part of the play. They now maneuver a different strategy and diplomatic tactics.
The Communists just temporarily adopted the new change to get out of their poverty. They slowly regain their economic strength through the help of the Western capitalists.
China is now close to the top of the super-power list. Vietnam will learn and follow its teacher. They are very creative in the play. The dispute of lands and maritime are their plays.
Russia also now regains its strength. Communist Vietnam, Communist China, and Communist Russia are the same communist family, learned, and adopted the same communist doctrine, which is totally opposite with the Democratic Doctrine. They just temporarily adopted the new change to get out of their poverty.
What will they do when they gain full strength? Another war?
The Leaders of the Free World should be very careful to offer them all your secret weapons (defense or finance). You all must put Democratic Principle first and before any deals or trade-offs.
Our children will be very disappointed with the current outcome. One day, they may not have any freedom to play with.
God Bless our free world.
